DENPASAR – The Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) temporarily closed three natural tourist park areas (TWA) from March 18-20, 2026 to honor the implementation of the Holy Day of Nyepi Saka 1948 New Year.
“The area will be reopened on Saturday, March 21 at 09.00 WITA,” said Head of BKSDA Bali Ratna Hendratmoko as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 11.
Temporary closures were imposed on four TWA areas, namely Lake Buyan-Lake Tamblingan in Buleleng Regency, TWA Panelokan in Bangli Regency, TWA Gunung Batur Bukit Payang, Bangli Regency and TWA Sangeh in Badung Regency.
With the closure, visits for nature tourism, research, and education activities in several conservation areas cannot be carried out for a while.
The temporary closure refers to the Announcement of the Head of the Bali BKSDA Number PG.1/K.23/TU/KSA.01.04/B/03/2026 regarding the Temporary Closure of Visits to Conservation Forest Areas during National Holidays and Joint Holidays for the Holy Day of Nyepi in the Saka 1948 New Year.
The temporary closure, he added, was carried out as a form of respect for the implementation of the Catur Brata Penyepian, namely Amati Geni (not lighting a fire or light), Amati Karya (not working), Amati Lelungan (not traveling), and Amati Lelanguan (not having fun).
“Nyepi momentum is also an opportunity for nature to rest for a moment from tourist visits, so that the ecosystem of conservation areas can recover and remain sustainable,” he said.
Ratna hopes for support and understanding from all communities and tourists to comply with the temporary closure policy.
The main series of Nyepi begins on March 18, namely the Tawur Kesangapada ceremony in the morning until noon, then continued with the ogoh-ogoh parade in the afternoon at certain points in rural and urban areas.
Furthermore, the peak of Nyepi begins at 06.00 WITA on March 19 and ends on March 20 at 06.00 WITA.
